Ringing in the New Year in Palm Springs – some ideas for you

In case you are visiting Palm Springs on New Year’s Eve and looking for the desert’s version of the Time Square ball dropping, here are some things we’ve found that may be of interest to you…(yes, seeing The Village People and doing you Y-M-C-A is possible in the desert!)

The Living Desert has a show on December 31st – check out this holiday extravaganza.  See description of this and some other suggestions from Palm Springs Life magazine:  http://www.palmspringslife.com/get-the-party-started/

For excellent lounge vibe, dinner and a show, you can’t go wrong with “The Purple Room”. Even Elvis will be there on 12/30!

No visit to Palm Springs would be complete without a visit to Kenny Irwin’s Robo Light Spectacular...just 5 minutes from The Monkey Tree Hotel.  Put $5 in the sink in his driveway (not kidding) and get ready to be amazed by weirdness!  Who doesn’t love 40′ Tall sculptures lit up and made out of toilets and microwaves (and some leftover Christmas toys)!

For excellent cocktails, pu-pu platter like nobody’s business, and a fun, authentic TIKI feel, go to Tonga Hut!  http://www.tongahut.com

For “Old School” Palm Springs, Melvyn’s is the place.  They are sold out for dinner on New Years Eve, but have live music starting at 8:00 pm and excellent real deal cocktails.  If you are here for dinner, order the Steak Diane and watch out for the table-side flames!  http://inglesideinn.com/

For “New School” Palm Springs, check out Eight4Nine.  Their late night pre-fix dinner may be sold out, but as of writing this blog, the earlier dinner was available. The food here is excellent and the decor is beautiful.  If you can’t get here on New Year’s Eve, definitely put this on you list of “must-dine-here” locations.  https://eight4nine.com/

The Spa Resort and Casino in downtown Palm Springs is offering a free event open to the public.  If you like outdoor block party / dance party, with fireworks and a desert countdown…and if you would like to see The Village People perform and get your Y-M-C-A on, treat yourself to the $35 upgraded pass.  A premiere pass is $75 and this includes private seating area, outdoor VIP lounge, 2 cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and party favors.  https://www.sparesortcasino.com/

Whatever you decide to do, have fun and be safe out there…Remember Uber and Lyft come to The Monkey Tree Hotel and to almost ALL places in Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley…leave the driving to them!

If we have missed anything, please share your NYE ideas!
